Program Description

Louise joined the Bureau of Fearless Ideas in the fall of 2015, right after an organizational transition had lead to significant staff turnover and a budget shortfall. In the following year, the organization experienced an office flood, a neighborhood explosion, and a leadership transition. During this session, we’ll discuss strategies to keep your staff, board, and donors informed and connected (and out of panic-mode) in the face of planned and unplanned changes.

In this session you will learn (using specific examples):

  • How and when to communicate challenges
  • Strategies to disaster-proof your budget and your fundraising plan
  • Ways to keep your community inspired and engaged during difficult times

M. Louise McKay has worked in nonprofit management, fundraising, and communications since 1998, both locally and in New York City. She is a former educator, consultant, and coach, with a practical and academic background in the literary and performing arts. In Seattle, she’s held positions with ACT Theatre, Seattle Opera, and Hedgebrook in addition to her current role as Director of Strategic Growth at the Greater Seattle Bureau of Fearless Ideas. She spends her free time practicing the craft of disaster management, aka parenting.




This program is eligible for 1.5 CFRE credit hours. Please note that you are required to self track your own credit hours.
