Fundraising leaders are continuously beset with high turnover rates. Much of it results from an ever-growing demand for development talent in a market where team members are frequently lured with offers for career growth and better salary. Managers are often forced to hire from a pool of underqualified candidates. What are your options when your team is faced with a talent shortage? This session will explore strategies to hire and keep outstanding talent, including a discussion about professionals with little or no development experience but a wealth of transferable skills.

Attendees will learn how to find traditional and alternative fundraising talent, assess prospective fundraisers, and then reward talent to ensure a loyal, high-performing team.

About the Speakers

 

Dan Nevez has over 25 years of professional experience in higher education, cultural institutions, and nonprofit executive search. He has successfully placed more than 100 senior executives at regional and national nonprofits and associations, including philanthropy searches. He has current and recent clients in California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Washington, DC region, and Washington State. He is an active participant and frequent speaker for national and local associations on nonprofit recruitment and retention.

 

Rebecca Weaver is the Director, Field Development for The Trust for Public Land serving on the organization’s senior leadership team and overseeing a team responsible for raising over $30M in private funds. Prior to The Trust for Public Land, Rebecca was the Director of Development for UC San Diego Health Sciences, Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center. Rebecca began her nonprofit career at the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association where for 14 years she held several positions.
